What are grey coated 5g x 12 steel wheel weights?
They are stick-on balance weights for the inner barrel of alloy rims on passenger cars and light trucks. Each strip is lead-free steel (Fe) with twelve rectangular 5g segments, giving 60g of correction, and the segments snap or cut apart so the technician uses only what the wheel needs. The steel is zinc plated and then grey coated, so the weight blends in on silver, grey and gunmetal rims.
It is a practical everyday weight for tyre shops, wheel service centres, mobile fitters and parts distributors who want one neutral-coloured adhesive strip that covers most balancing jobs with little waste.
Why choose a grey finish?
Most factory alloy wheels are silver or grey, and against those rims a grey weight is much harder to spot through open spokes than bare zinc or black. The customer simply sees a tidier job.
- Blends with silver, grey and gunmetal rims
- Grey coating over zinc plating adds a second layer against moisture and road salt
- One neutral colour covers most passenger car alloys in your stock
For a plain metallic look, see our zinc plated 5g x 12 blue tape steel weights. For darker wheels, compare the black coated 5g x 12 version; many shops stock both.
Which tape should you order?
The steel is identical whichever tape you pick, so choose by what your technicians prefer and what your customers ask for.
| Tape type | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Blue tape | Standard general-purpose adhesive tape; the most common choice for everyday workshop balancing |
| 3M tape | Branded 3M adhesive for buyers whose customers ask for a named, recognised tape |
| Norton tape | Branded Norton adhesive as an alternative named tape option |
| Red tape | Colour-coded liner, useful when distributors want to separate product lines on the shelf |
| White tape | Colour-coded liner for private label ranges or a clean retail look |
Tell us your market’s climate and the rims you mostly work on, and we will recommend the most suitable tape.

Is this the right weight for your wheels?
Match the weight to the wheel: grey for silver and grey alloys, black coated weights for black or dark rims, and zinc plated weights when appearance matters less. Technicians who work in gloves often prefer the wide-edge tape grey 5g x 12 weights, which are easier to peel.
For finer steps, add the 2.5g x 12 steel weights; for larger corrections, the 10g strips save stacking segments, and high-volume bays often find a grey 5g roll quicker to handle.
How are they packed?
Strips are packed 25 to a bag and 4 bags to a box, so each box holds 100 strips, or 6 kg of correction weight, easy to handle in the workshop and to count in the warehouse. Boxes ship in export cartons by sea or air; give us your destination port and we will advise the carton count and freight option.
Can we put your brand on the box?
Yes. The factory supports minor, drawing-based and sample-based customization, including logo printing on boxes, a different tape type or colour, and alternative coating colours. Send your artwork and we will agree the details and lead time with you.

Questions buyers often ask
Do these weights contain any lead?
No. They are steel (Fe), zinc plated and grey coated, a straightforward choice for markets moving away from lead weights.
How do I make sure they stay on?
Clean and dry the marked spot on the inner barrel, fit at room temperature, peel the liner without touching the adhesive and press firmly along the whole weight.
Which tape is best for my shop?
Blue tape covers everyday use. Choose 3M or Norton if customers ask for a branded tape, and red or white for colour-coded stock or a private label look.
Can I use these on steel wheels?
Adhesive weights are mainly used on the inner barrel of alloy rims. For steel rims, clip-on weights are usually the more practical choice.
