Buying Guide
A soft folding tonneau cover splits the bed into three panels of vinyl stretched over aluminum frames. Owners flip back one or two panels for groceries or luggage, or unclamp the whole cover in a minute for tall loads.
Each section is an aluminum frame with vinyl wrapped tight around it. Check that the hinges are full-width and the frame corners are reinforced.
The cover should stand up on its own when folded, with a prop rod or strap to hold it against the cab.
Quick-release clamps under the bed rail let the cover come off without tools, which is the main reason buyers pick a tri-fold over a roll-up.
Look for clamps that do not need the cover removed to adjust them.
A tri-fold has more joints than a roll-up, so check the seals at each hinge and at the tailgate.
Drain tubes or a sloped frame help, but no soft cover is fully waterproof; see the hub page for leak tips.
