Buying Guide
Hard folding covers are the best-selling hard cover type. Rigid panels give security and a clean, flat look, while hinges let the owner open a third, two thirds or the whole bed. Buyers compare panel material, how many folds the cover has and how it seals.
Aluminum skins over a foam or honeycomb core give strength with low weight.
Honeycomb aluminum panels are stiffer and can carry light loads on top.
A matte, textured top coat hides scratches and resists UV.
A tri-fold has three panels and is the most common.
A quad-fold adds a fourth panel so the stack sits lower against the cab and blocks less of the rear window.
Some designs flip fully vertical against the cab for full bed access.
Look for continuous perimeter seals and gaskets at each hinge.
The cover should lock in the closed position when the tailgate is locked.
Low-profile designs sit close to the bed rails for a factory look.
